Laser Hair Reduction & IPL Fundamentals

Compare diode laser delivery with filtered, broad-spectrum intense pulsed light. Use separate station checklists to connect a consultation, the intended procedure, and the exact equipment in the room.

Clinical syllabus

Clinicians learning how to distinguish laser hair-reduction planning from model-specific IPL applications.

Before the workshop

Review the manuals for the specific diode and IPL platforms. Bring a de-identified intake example that includes relevant skin, hair, treatment and exposure history.

01Laser versus pulsed light

Study the differences between a diode source and filtered broadband output. Relate the concepts of chromophore, pulse structure and cooling to the questions asked at intake.

Workshop exercise Explain the difference between the two platforms to a patient without promising the same result from each.

02Hair and skin assessment

Document hair characteristics, recent exposures, prior response and expectations. Discuss the role of the growth cycle when communicating variability and reviewing progress.

Workshop exercise Compare two intake histories and record which missing facts would change the decision to proceed.

03DiodeIQ station

Identify the handpiece, contact surface, cooling indicators and approved eye protection. Review how a supervisor verifies readiness before a simulation.

Workshop exercise Perform an equipment identification and room-readiness check using the correct model documentation.

04IPLIQ station

Read the exact model label, applicable indications, filter markings and protection requirements. Clarify why a familiar IPL trade name cannot establish that a configuration supports a particular procedure.

Workshop exercise Match a sample procedure request to the available labeling and flag any unsupported or uncertain use.

05Measurement and follow-up

Define a baseline area, repeatable photography and a follow-up record. Document patient questions and adverse responses for clinical review.

Workshop exercise Write a progress note for two visits with different lighting and identify which comparisons are reliable.

Case conference

Bring the decisions together.

A patient requests the same treatment a friend received on an IPL system. Your clinic has both a diode platform and an IPL unit. Write a response that separates the patient’s goal from the device name and identifies the necessary checks.

Assessment

Proposed skills and reasoning checks for the workshop.

  • Correctly distinguish a diode laser from filtered IPL.
  • Verify the exact model, accessory and protection requirements before a simulated session.
  • Provide a defensible baseline and follow-up documentation plan.

Equipment & owner training

The proposed lab uses DiodeIQ and IPLIQ from the ENFUZion series. The clinical syllabus covers the procedure, and the operator exercises use the instructions for these models.

Owner & team onboarding

Organize the DiodeIQ and IPLIQ operator stations separately. Review the installed handpieces, accessory inventory, cooling checks, protective equipment, cleaning workflow and limits on user troubleshooting.

Practice handover

Build two station cards and demonstrate how staff would quarantine a mismatched or unidentified accessory before use.
